We human beings don’t have to do anything special in order to think negatively.  Thinking negatively comes as natural to many of us as water flowing down hill, but to think positively has to be with the effort and intention of swimming up stream.

Yes that’s right folks, consistent positive thinking has to be intentional.  For example, living in a fallen world and being hardwired with a competitive nature makes it hard for most of us NOT to think negatively about others around us who’re experiencing success.  We do this as if others succeeding is a twisted indication and sign of us failing.  But allowing these types of negative thoughts to take up residence and occupy space in our mind places us at a huge disadvantage when it comes to accomplishing our own goals and dreams.

I invite you to consider adopting the philosophy of being intentional about thinking positive and encouraging others in the days ahead.  And if you do this, don’t be surprised when things start to happen for you too in a BIG way.

Now get-on out there and Make it GREAT!

Immediate gratification addicts will never experience the feeling of real success because real, sustainable success takes consistent effort coupled with the passing of time and most people won’t stick around long enough for success to show up.

That’s right folks the process of succeeding in any endeavor does not happen by sudden flight over night.  It requires showing up early and staying late to Make it GREAT!

So what are you prepared to do?  What sacrifices are you prepared to make so that you can make it Great?  What are you willing to do to avoid the all-too-familiar feeling of failure and defeat?  Hmmm…

Give it some thought and don’t be afraid to give it your all.

Let’s go Make it GREAT!

As it relates to marriage and relationships, over the years I’ve found that one of the biggest disconnects and misunderstandings is when each person is giving themselves too many points and too much credit for doing things that the other one thinks is just expected of them in their role as a husband or wife.

For example when a husband comes home from work and feels like he’s made his contribution to the family for the day and nothing else should be required of him.  Or, a stay-at-home Mom who’s at home cooking, cleaning and transporting kids all day and feels that she’s done contributing to the family when Daddy walks through the door.

Continuing such behavior can ultimately lead to what I call the BBF Syndrome, which is a form of mutual Bitterness, Burnout and Frustration.  I know from first-hand experience that a notion of “I’ve done too much” and “You’re not doing enough” is likely to develop as a result of this dreaded BBF Syndrome.

But take heart my dear friends for there is an antidote that’s sure to knock this syndrome out of the park of any marriage and relationship.  It’s one me and my wife, the Marriage Family Therapist, have developed that works like a charm.  And, I’m sure you‘ll find some value in it as well in your relationships if you’re not afraid to adopt it as your own and put it into practice.

It’s called “Communication”.  That’s right folks good ole’-fashioned talking-it-out to get a better understanding of where each of your individual expectations meet reality.  Being a productive spouse and parent in a household doesn’t stop at a certain hour of the day and it has nothing to do with dependency.  Being a well-balanced spouse and parent has to do with accepting the notion of “Interdependency” which means that both parties have to agree to work together on mutual ground with a common goal to get the maximum benefit of the relationship and prevent the BBF Syndrome from creeping in.

A little bit of compromise coupled with a little bit of shared work can go a long way to save the day and keep that relationship from going astray, okay?  🙂

Simply put, no one of you two is better than the sum of you two, so cleave together as it says in the “good book” and combine your efforts and don’t be surprised when you’re making that marriage thing GREAT!

Keep Making it GREAT!!!

The most surefire indicator of a persons priorities in life is their actions or lack-there-of.  So at the end of the day, what you do or don’t do will ultimately tell the world about you and what’s most important to you.

Yes it’s true that your actions speak much louder than any words you could ever speak.  So pay careful attention to what you say because your actions or inactions just might end up making you look a bit foolish to others who’re expecting you to actually do what you say.

I’m sure we all have that person or persons in our life that is a professional at telling others what they’re “going to do”.  Some of these people may even be our closest friends or share our last name.

I encourage you today to let their incongruent way of life be your lesson.  Don’t be found guilty of letting your mouth write checks that your actions can’t cash.  Make an honest effort to say what you’ll do, then do what you say or just shut up and move out the way.

This is a breadcrumb of wisdom that’s sure to help you to be the exception and continue to make it GREAT!  So eat up and go up and Make it GREAT!

All of us are responsible for where we’re at in this moment of our lives but usually the ones who are experiencing success and prosperity are the ones who don’t have a problem admitting it.

Yes that’s right folks our past experiences, good or bad, shouldn’t be allowed to bully us into a life of blaming others for our current state with a “Whoa is me” mentality of self-pity.  This convenient excuse may work for a short while for some, but eventually the world will scream a collective shout for you to “GET OVER IT!!!

The one thing that we all have in common across the board is baggage, some good and some not-so-good and where we’re at today in our lives is as a direct result of how we chose and are choosing to deal with our baggage.

The good news is that if we don’t like where we’re at today we can always start the process of changing it for a better tomorrow.  Yes that’s right it’s never too late to start making it GREAT!

So make a choice to take back control of your future of tomorrow by taking some action today.  Don’t leave the best part of yourself on the table of life because of some past unfortunate event.  Make a commitment to start reading some Great books, participating in some Great events, listening to some Great stuff and hanging out with some Great people and I’m confident that soon you’ll find that this is the undeniable key to Making it GREAT!
