I’ve learned that the biggest breeding ground for negative, non-productive activity is idle time.  Yes, the negative will eventually sneak and creep its way into our idle time if we don’t intentionally fill it with something positive.

I invite you to consider the following truth today and don’t plot to kill or maim the messenger.  Negativity is very patient and cunning.  It sits in the shadows of our day watching and waiting for an opportunity to make itself known.  I believe that “Most People” continue to fall victim to the cunning, convincing ways of negativity because of their failure to read, participate, listen and associate with positive people and events on a regular basis.  We can not afford to take an extended vacation from education.  This is no doubt a problem for many and then they may often wonder why they aren’t growing or getting better.  Hmmmm…  This may be a bit harsh today, but a person that truly means you well will sometimes deliver the harsh message.

I heard my friend, Ernie Lansford, say that history doesn’t repeat itself people just repeat their history or the history of others.  I couldn’t agree more with his statement.  I believe the way we prevent our negative history from being repeated is to continue to read, participate, listen and associate.  I encourage you today to fill your idle time with positive productive activities and watch what happens.

Think you don’t have idle time?  Oh yes you do, the chances are you’re already filling it with stuff that doesn’t help you get better at anything.  You might be confusing activity with productivity and there’s a huge difference between the two.  I encourage you to take back those moments and subdue them and make yourself a captive audience for your own personal development.  Slap in an educational and informational CD or two and listen while you’re driving.  Pick up a good inspirational, motivational book and read while you’re waiting.  Take a mutually nourishing and encouraging friend to lunch.  Attend a positive, uplifting, educational, informational event from time-to-time.  These things are guaranteed to make you better every day in every way.

The bottom line here is, don’t give negativity the opportunity to get a foothold in your life.  Have fun, be entertained and enjoy this life but watch out for those “chewing gum” activities that will just spend, waste and pass your time.  I’ve said this many times before, but it bears repeating.  Choose to “invest” that time wisely because you can’t get it back.  Doing so will definitely set you on a course to making it GREAT!

Create your Plan, Follow your Plan and then expect for things not to go quite as Planned.  This is my reality everyday of the week and twice on Sundays.

A few years ago through a series of events I created the “Make it Great” tag-line/slogan and began to attach it to everything I did.  I even had a plan to make it the title of my first book due to be released this November (2012).  Well, that was until I found out a couple of months ago that the international restaurant franchise, Pizza Hut, grabbed my slogan and trademarked it.

I must admit my first reaction was “Uughhh!  I should’ve trademarked my slogan to protect it for my brand!”  A few friends even suggested I start legal action but I didn’t want this to be part of my story.  So I immediately started to view this new development as an opportunity to make the title and slogan even better.

As a result, it is with complete joy and pleasure that I unveil and reveal the new and improved name for my book, “BreadCrumbs to Making it GREAT.”  This title has a slightly different meaning for many people and I think it is a slam dunk based on the content that’s in the book.  I would love to hear your thoughts about what this title means to you.  Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down?

Yes, this is proof-positive that things may not always go as planned, but we can make the necessary adjustments and make the original plan even better.  Let’s take this breadcrumb of knowledge and make it GREAT!

When life throws you a curveball, make the necessary adjustments and knock it out the park.  We all should know and understand by now that life is a major-league baseball pitcher throwing missiles down range at us in the form of challenges and changes and they’re not always straight and predictable.  Sometimes they’re knuckles and curveballs.  These unexpected challenges require adjustments in order for us to make bat-to-ball contact.

So my word to you today is to keep your eye on the ball and what’s important and make the necessary adjustments and knock those suckers out the park!  Our homeruns can only come if we commit to keep swinging the bat.  Let’s keep making it GREAT!

GREAT WEEK!!!!!

I  would be two kinds of crazy and three kinds of foolish to let this day slip away without something to say about its’ infamous notoriety.  This day in 2001 we witnessed an unspeakable atrocity and demonstration of the amount of horror that can be inflicted on innocent beings for the sake of a distorted version of retribution.  Out of all the times I’ve been able to process complex thoughts and make since of life’s challenging twist and turns, I continue to fall short of understanding a reasonable rationale for taking innocent lives for any cause.

Is there a cause that’s so great that it would justify such an egregious, callous, barbaric act?  I can’t imagine there being a “yes” answer coming from the mouth of any sane, rational, compassionate human being.  Some may argue one way or another but I will leave the debating up to the debater’s while I attempt to advocate peace and understanding.

In spite of it all, what was meant for evil actually yielded some good.  This horrific tragedy actually resulted in bringing our great nation together as one.  For a few years people managed to put their indifferences aside and come together in a show of solidarity in our great nation.  But today, hidden selfish agendas and politics as usual has once again started to divide us.

My sincere hope and prayer is that it will not take another tragedy to bring us back together again.  After all, who says that blood shed is necessary to affect change?  I believe there’s a better way and it starts with me.  I will take the advice of the late Gandhi and actually strive to be the change that I want to see in this world of ours.

I still have great faith in the human spirit and the inherent “Good” that’s in us all.  Let’s recall this day together.  Let’s all remember where we were and never forget where we’re going and remind the next generation from where we’ve come.  Let’s all play our respective part in getting us where we need to be, safely.  Embracing this breadcrumb of wisdom will definitely help us all make it GREAT.
