I was having a great conversation with my dad this morning and he reminded my that in the eyes of many we’re only as good as our last favor.  My dad is always good for making statements like this so I wasn’t really surprised when he said it.  But I was surprised how shocking this can be in the moments you experience it first hand.  I must admit there’s nothing shorter in life than the memory’s of those who spend it with their hands out asking for favors.  The last favor tends to fade from their memory rather quickly.  Hmmmm…

I’m reminded of the words of the late, great 35th President, John F. Kennedy when he said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”  Profound words that were so simple yet carried so much weight.  I believe we shouldn’t stumble through this life looking for favors, hand-outs and for what others can do for us, but we should find ways to do for others, for it is true that it is far better to be a giver than to be a receiver of those who are willing to give.

Yes, I understand that most people tend to have short memories and are oftentimes stuck on a “What have you done for me lately?” mode of thinking.  But, the statement and belief that, “We’re only as good as our last favor,” should never be acceptable.  So, don’t make the mistake of letting your actions justify this statement and belief.

Our communities are in dire need of servant-leaders who aren’t afraid to step up and step out to lead the charge in showing and modeling to others what it means to be a giver of ones time, talents, treasures and tears.  Let us not be guilty of “knowing it” but not “showing it.”

So, what have you done for someone else lately?  What are you prepared to do today to make someone else’s day great?  No need to answer out loud, just “show me” and make me proud.

This is definitely a breadcrumb to making it Great.

I  would be two kinds of crazy and three kinds of foolish to let this day slip away without something to say about its’ infamous notoriety.  This day in 2001 we witnessed an unspeakable atrocity and demonstration of the amount of horror that can be inflicted on innocent beings for the sake of a distorted version of retribution.  Out of all the times I’ve been able to process complex thoughts and make since of life’s challenging twist and turns, I continue to fall short of understanding a reasonable rationale for taking innocent lives for any cause.

Is there a cause that’s so great that it would justify such an egregious, callous, barbaric act?  I can’t imagine there being a “yes” answer coming from the mouth of any sane, rational, compassionate human being.  Some may argue one way or another but I will leave the debating up to the debater’s while I attempt to advocate peace and understanding.

In spite of it all, what was meant for evil actually yielded some good.  This horrific tragedy actually resulted in bringing our great nation together as one.  For a few years people managed to put their indifferences aside and come together in a show of solidarity in our great nation.  But today, hidden selfish agendas and politics as usual has once again started to divide us.

My sincere hope and prayer is that it will not take another tragedy to bring us back together again.  After all, who says that blood shed is necessary to affect change?  I believe there’s a better way and it starts with me.  I will take the advice of the late Gandhi and actually strive to be the change that I want to see in this world of ours.

I still have great faith in the human spirit and the inherent “Good” that’s in us all.  Let’s recall this day together.  Let’s all remember where we were and never forget where we’re going and remind the next generation from where we’ve come.  Let’s all play our respective part in getting us where we need to be, safely.  Embracing this breadcrumb of wisdom will definitely help us all make it GREAT.

If you believe in your heart that “it’s” possible for you, then “it” truly becomes possible for you, whatever “it” is.

My prayer for us today as we approach yet another welcomed weekend is, may we continue to be honest with the person peering back at us in the mirror. May integrity continue to be the foundation for the way we conduct business. May our mistakes be few and our excuses non-existent.  May our passion be our focus fueled by our unwavering beliefs and convictions.

May there be many moments that make us smile with authentic joy.  May our hearts deepest desire be to do for others in need.  May we have the courage and bravery of a fearless lion in the face of our greatest fears and become unstoppable in our noble and just pursuits.  Finally, may I continue to attack each day with these truths because my boys say they want to be like me.

Yes my friends, this life is definitely worthy of even more than just our best efforts.  So let’s not just make it good, let’s subdue it and make it GREAT!

I ’ve had the distinct privilege over the last nine years to work from home, which has afforded me the ability to invest a lot of time actively participating in my kid’s lives.  Needless to say, this has also resulted in me being around a lot of what most people call, “Stay-at-home Moms” or “Soccer Moms”, but I prefer to call them, “Home Engineers”.

Over these activity-filled years I’ve learned to never underestimate the power of a group of dedicated Soccer Moms.  Watching these Mom’s in action rallying around a worthy cause or mutual goal is nothing short of phenomenal.  They have a “Never-say-die” attitude and a Just-get-it-done” mentality.  Getting them to agree may be a challenge at times, but once you’ve got them all nodding their heads in the “Yes” direction for the cause, watch out world, because they will not be denied.  I’m convinced that we could’ve found Osama Bin Laden a lot sooner if we would’ve just assigned the task to a hand full of Soccer Mom’s.  There aren’t many things stronger than the heart of a volunteer and Soccer Moms are the crème-dele-crème.  As a result, I now have a new saying, “Need something done?  Get a Soccer Mom.”

So, if you’re a Work-from-home Mom or Soccer Mom or Stay-at-Home Engineer, please allow me to give you a big, fat “High-Five” for all that you do to make this world go round.  You’re tireless efforts have not gone unnoticed.  You’re coming early and staying late is not in vein.  Those bright eyes all around you are taking notice and are quietly thanking you for your unyielding service to them and this world.

Please take the time to breathe-in this acknowledgement, affirmation and congratulations today and know that you play the most important role of anyone in this world of ours because you are in direct contact with shaping and molding the future of this world.  That future is sitting in that car seat behind you everyday.  Keep doing that thing that you do so well and make it GREAT!
